57 kilometers—or about a 20-minute train ride—separate travelers between the north and south of our country, thanks to the Gotthard Base Tunnel. However, a much more fascinating way to experience this route is by hiking over it at walking speed.

Covering an elevation gain of 2,448 meters and a distance of approximately 100 kilometers, this journey unveils a mountain world of extraordinary beauty. You will experience the diverse alpine landscapes bridging the northern and southern sides of the Alps. Immerse yourself in the hospitality of the Urnerland, Bündnerland, and Ticino regions. Along the way, you will encounter moments where you are standing directly above the tunnel—though up to 2,000 meters higher!
